Heart diseases: Can whole-food, plant-based diets reverse them?
Heart diseases are known as the key cause of premature death in young people these days. Earlier, too, they were known as a leading cause of death globally, but now, especially since the Covid pandemic and the vaccination drive that followed, heart diseases have become far more common, and that too, among young people.
In the past two years, heart attacks have been reported in teenagers as well and celebrities, too, have succumbed to heart attack or cardiac arrest at a young age. But can diet play a role in curbing or reversing the same? According to experts, diet is the key factor that can make a great deal of difference.
How are nutrition and heart disease risk linked?
Nutrition is the leading cause of heart disease, regardless of how fit you are. Meat, oil, and dairy are the main culprits. A study published in the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology found that people who eat diets with higher amounts of healthy plant-based foods and lower amounts of less-healthy plant-based foods may reduce their risk of stroke compared to people with lower-quality diets.
