ICC T20 World Cup 2024: "Not everything will…" – Rohit Sharma on playing under Hardik Pandya before leading India in WC

Rohit Sharma’s highly successful era as Mumbai Indians captain came to an end last year when the franchise handed over the reins to all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Rohit is currently playing under Pandya’s captaincy in the ongoing IPL 2024 but his role will be reversed in the T20 World Cup. However, for Rohit, it’s business as usual and it’s not something he hasn’t experienced before in his playing career. “Look, it’s a part of life. Not everything will go your way. It has been a great experience. I have never been a captain before in my life and I have played under many captains. “It’s not different or new for me,” Rohit told reporters on Thursday.

Rohit has played under many captains like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Virender Sehwag at international level in the past. And in the IPL it has been led by Adam Gilchrist (Deccan Chargers), Harbhajan Singh, Ricky Ponting (both Mumbai Indians) and now Pandya. “Whatever is there and you go through it and then try and do what is required of you as a player. I have tried to do that in the last month or so,” said Rohit.

Virat Kohli’s strike rate while opening the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s innings in the ongoing IPL is the talk of the town. Kohli has scored 500 runs so far but his strike rate of 147 is very low compared to Travis Head (194 plus), Phil Salt (180 plus) and Sunil Narine (182 plus).

Indian selector Ajit Agarkar said there was no discussion about Kohli’s strike rate during the team selection meeting and praised the virtues of experience in tournaments like the T20 World Cup. “I don’t think we’re discussing that. He’s in great form, fortunately in the IPL so that’s not a concern. In terms of how it’s going in the IPL, you’re still going to the World Cup, still international cricket – still But there is a gap,” Agarkar said.
