IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma’s ability as leader is often overlooked, says Chappell
Former Australia captain Ian Chappell has lauded Rohit Sharma for his quality as a leader in the ongoing India vs England Test series.
In his column at ESPNcricinfo, Chappell explained that Rohit Sharma has kept the Indian team steady through shuffling squads.
The Indian team has seen multiple changes in its regular Test team in the series against England. Virat Kohli pulled out of the team just days ahead of the Test series due to personal reasons. After the first Test match in Hyderabad, India were forced to make two changes to their team – due to injuries to KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja.
The team management had to navigate through multiple changes in the second and the third Test match, where they also handed three debuts. Chappelll wrote in his column that Sharma kept the ship steady through those changes and deserved credit for the same.
“In the sudden shuffling of the Indian side after a prolonged period of selection stability, the leadership of Rohit Sharma is often overlooked. His capable handling of the many changes to personnel and the tough loss of the first Test shows his resilience. He also produced a masterful century when the Indian team needed it, at the start of the third Test, to confirm he wasn’t a ceremonial captain.
