IND Vs ENG: Who Will Progress To Final If India Vs England T20 World Cup 2024 Semifinal Washes Out In Guyana?
New Delhi: Rain has played a major part in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 and might also have a role to play on Thursday when India lock horns against England in the second semifinal at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Notably, four games have been washed out due to rain so far in the tournament while overs were reduced in a couple of games because of the same.
According to Accuweather, there is am 88 per cent of chance of rain in Guyana on Thursday morning with an 18 per cent chance of thunderstorms. The mega clash, which is a repeat of the 2022 edition semifinal, is scheduled to start at 10:30 AM local time, which is 8 PM IST.
Unlike the first semifinal in Trinidad where Afghanistan play South Africa, the second semifinal will not have a reserve day. However, there is a unique provision in place: an additional 250 minutes have been allocated to ensure that a result can be achieved even if rain interrupts play.
What Happens If IND vs ENG Semifinal Is Washed Out?
If rain completely spoils the game, preventing even a single ball from being bowled or making a result unachievable despite the additional allocated time, Rohit Sharma’s India will qualify for the final. The qualification is based on India’s flawless performance in the Super 8 stage, where they topped Group 1 with maximum points after beating Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia.
Meanwhile, England qualified for the semifinal as the second-best team in Group 2 behind South Africa. The last time both India and England faced each other in a T20 World Cup was two years back when jos Buttler’s side prevailed with 10 wickets in hand. So far, none of the matches in Guyana n this tournament has been affected by rain.
For the unknown, India are one of the two undefeated teams in the T20 World Cup 2024. As far as defending champions England are concerned, their only loss in the Super 8 stage came against South Africa.
