IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals’ Rasikh Salam Penalized for Breaching Code of Conduct
Delhi Capitals fast bowler Rasik Salam Dar was reprimanded for his wild celebration during his side’s thrilling win over Gujarat Titans in an IPL 2024 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday night. Rasikh was the star performer for DC with the ball, finishing with figures of 3/44 in four overs, which included B Sai Sudarshan, Shah Rukh Khan and R Sai Kishore. “Dar committed a Level 1 offense under Section 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He pleaded guilty and accepted the sanction of the match referee. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the decision of the match referee is final and binding,” read the IPL statement. Section 2.5 deals with “language, actions or gestures that are offensive or that may provoke an aggressive reaction from another player.”
According to the IPL Code of Conduct, clause 2.5 includes any language, action or gesture used by a player and directed at a player after dismissal which has the potential to provoke an aggressive reaction from the dismissed batter, regardless of the reaction outcome. Give or not. , or which may be considered to defame or demean the dismissed batter, even if the batterer feels insulted or humiliated (in other words, a ‘send-off’).
Section 2.5 includes, without limitation:
(a) excessive celebration directed at and near the dismissed batter;

DC won by four runs, their fourth win of the season so far. With this, they have moved up to the sixth position in the IPL points table.
For GT, it was their fifth defeat of IPL 2024 and they have now slipped to seventh place.
Pant bowled to Rasik in the 19th over of the GT innings and the visitors needed 37 runs to win. The right-arm pacer gave away 18 runs but took the key wicket of Sai Kishor with the final delivery of the over.
“(Enrich) Nortje was having a tough time. T20 is a funny game, after 14-15 overs the ball was coming nicely. So we want to trust Rasik, always trust someone who bowls well in the game. I think it’s about instinct as a captain, it will come out sometimes. Glad it worked out today,” Pant explained of his decision.
