IPL 2024: Gaikwad Registers Century Milestone, Buttler Nets Second Hundred of the Season
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has become the seventh batsman ever to score a century in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). The CSK skipper scored an unbeaten 60-ball 108, his second IPL century, with 12 fours and three sixes during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday. Batting in this iteration of the IPL has been about burning the ball far and wide, but Gaekwad took the classic route, timing the ball from the fours gap.
In fact, there were no fours in his first fifty but still, he managed to maintain a strike-rate above 180 during that phase. The right-hander scored his 17th fifty in just 28 balls in the IPL. The most spectacular shot Gaekwad played on the night was a slice-cut off pacer Mohsin Khan that beat the point fielder for a boundary. Gaekwad hit the first six of his innings off the 45th ball – pulling Marcus Stoinis’ half tracker over mid-wicket. Gaekwad, who reached 99 with a six off Yash Thakur at extra cover, scored 16 in the 18th over before completing his second IPL century with a four off the same bowler’s next delivery.
