IPL 2024: PBKS Clarifies! Jitesh Sharma Not Vice-captain, Sam Curran Leads in Shikhar Dhawan’s Absence

Punjab Kings faced a twist in their clash against Rajasthan Royals as skipper Shikhar Dhawan sat out due to a minor niggle, handing over the captaincy to all-rounder Sam Curran. However, this move sparked confusion among fans, especially since wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma had represented the team at a pre-season captain’s photoshoot last month, hinting at his role as the vice-captain.

Clarifying the Confusion

PBKS head coach Sanjay Bangar clarified the situation, stating that Curran was indeed the designated vice-captain, contrary to the impression created by Sharma’s presence at the pre-season photoshoot. Bangar explained that Sharma’s attendance at the event was due to logistical reasons, as Curran had arrived late from the UK and required additional practice sessions. Despite the initial confusion, Curran showcased his leadership skills on the field. Although he scored only six runs with the bat, Curran led a spirited bowling performance, securing figures of 2/25 from four overs. Despite the team’s efforts, PBKS faced a narrow defeat as Rajasthan Royals chased down their target of 148 with one delivery to spare.

Looking Ahead

The defeat marked PBKS’s fourth loss of the season, highlighting the challenges they face in the ongoing tournament. However, the team remains determined as they prepare to face Mumbai Indians in their upcoming match on Thursday. As Punjab Kings navigate through the highs and lows of the IPL season, fans eagerly anticipate their performance under Curran’s captaincy and Dhawan’s return to the field. With a talented squad and a resilient spirit, PBKS aims to bounce back stronger in the upcoming matches.
