IPL 2024 Playoffs Picture Takes Shape: Sunrisers Hyderabad Move to 4th Spot After Victory Against Rajasthan Royals
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by just one run in their 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday. SRH were unable to capitalize on the powerplay, losing the wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh. However, Travis Head and Nitish Reddy put on a 57-ball 96 to revive SRH’s innings while Henrik Klaassen (42 not out from 19) provided the final flurry. Reddy (76 not out) and Head (58) scored half-centuries to help Sunrisers Hyderabad post 201/3 after electing to bat. In reply, Ryan Parag (77) and opener Yashaswi Jaiswal (67) put on a 133-run partnership in the first over after Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets.
Cummins bowled a brilliant 19th over, conceding just seven runs, although Powell hit extra cover for a six off the last ball. Needing 12 runs to win off the final over and with four men outside the 30-yard circle due to the slow over rate, Powell dismissed Bhuvneshwar for four. With two runs needed off the final ball, Bhuvneshwar trapped Powell plumb lbw with a low full toss over middle and leg to secure a stunning win for SRH over the table-toppers. But the Sunrisers bowlers made a strong comeback and took the win off the last ball.
With their win, SRH leapfrogged Chennai Super Kings (CSK) into fourth place, the last playoff spot, with 12 points. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) also have 6 wins so far and are second and third respectively with better NRR. Despite the loss, RR remained on top.
