IPL 2024: RCB’s Mohammed Siraj Voices Displeasure Over ‘Impact Sub’ Amid High-Scoring IPL Match
The Indian Premier League 2024 season is in full swing and the latest installment of the T20 extravaganza saw multiple huge scores as the true impact players took batting to a new level in the tournament. RCB seamer Mohammad Siraj expressed his displeasure with the rule as teams started using extra batsmen in their lineups. The pacer said bowlers have become tougher as a result of the rule. “Please remove this impact sub thing,” laughed the fast bowler. He further added that the wickets and batsmen’s tendency to swing have not helped the bowlers in recent times.
“The wickets are already flat and there’s nothing for the bowlers, earlier, it was slow at times, but the batsmen now come out swinging,” he added. His concern is similar to that of MI star batsman and India captain Rohit Sharma, who felt the rule was holding the all-rounders back.
Speaking on a podcast, Rohit said, “I’m not a big fan of the impact sub-rule.” “It will hold the all-rounders back, after all cricket is played with 11 players and not 12 players,” said the 36-year-old opening batsman. He further added that the underpowered player rule has made the game more entertaining but at the expense of some crucial aspects of the game. “You get a lot out of the game so that it entertains people around,” said the captain of the Indian national cricket team. He used examples of all-rounders like Shivam Dubey, who are used as pure batsmen, which is not good for the national side. Rohit explained, “If you look only from the cricket aspect, I think people like Shivam Dubey and Washington Sundar are not bowling, which is not good for us.”
