IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant Breaks Sanju Samson’s IPL Record, Inches Close to Virat Kohli’s Milestone
The competition for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad is heating up, especially for the wicketkeeper-batter role. With several contenders vying for the position, including KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, Jitesh Sharma, and Dhruv Jurel, the race is on to prove their worth. Among the six contenders, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, and Ishan Kishan have been leading the pack with consistent performances. However, KL Rahul is yet to find his rhythm and make a mark. The selection committee is set to discuss the potential candidates by the end of April. This puts pressure on the hopefuls to showcase their form and stake their claims early in the season.
Pant’s Comeback Trail
Rishabh Pant, who endured a hiatus from international cricket due to injuries sustained in a car accident in December 2022, has made a remarkable comeback. IPL 2024 marks his return to competitive cricket after a swift recovery, and he has demonstrated both form and fitness while captaining Delhi Capitals. With 194 runs from six games, Pant is currently the top run-scorer for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. He has also registered a couple of impressive fifties, showcasing his batting prowess. In a recent match against Lucknow Super Giants, Pant played a crucial innings, scoring a quickfire 41 runs off just 24 balls, including four fours and two sixes.
Record-Breaking Feats
During his innings, Pant achieved a significant milestone by becoming the third-fastest player to reach 3,000 runs in IPL history, surpassing the previous record held by Rajasthan Royals’ captain, Sanju Samson. This feat highlights Pant’s impact and consistency in the tournament. Despite Pant’s stellar performances, Delhi Capitals are currently struggling in the IPL standings, occupying the 9th position out of 10 teams. Their upcoming match against Gujarat Titans presents another opportunity for Pant to lead from the front and contribute towards his team’s success.
