IPL 2024: Sanju Samson Reflects on Rajasthan Royals’ Narrow Loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad: ‘Game Isn’t Over Till It’s Over
Rajasthan Royals (RR) lost their 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by just one run at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday. RR skipper Sanju Samson said that they have played some close games this season and have been on the winning side but could not get it over the line against SRH. He also credited the opposition bowlers as they managed to keep the scoring rate at exactly 10 runs an over till the final over.
“We’ve played some really close games and won some of them. One lost here, and we have to give credit to the SRH bowlers. We were going at 10 per over till the last over,” Sanju Samson said after the match. “The margin for error in the IPL is very small and you have to give SRH credit. Knowing the nature of IPL, you never win the game until you actually win the game,” he added. Sanju also said at the start that it was tough to bat against the new ball and the SRH bowlers bowled well.
“It was very difficult to bat with the new ball. We bowled well in the Powerplay. When the ball got old, it was easy to bat and they capitalized really well,” Sanju said. After the initial shock of losing Jos Buttler and captain Sanju Samson, Yashshwi Jaiswal’s 40-ball 67 and Ryan Parag’s 49-ball 77 helped RR to an impressive win. But once the duo’s 133-run stand was broken, SRH roared back into the game and completed a remarkable comeback, handing RR their first defeat while chasing the season.
Sanju praised the innings of Yashaswi and Ryan.
“You have to give credit to both young men. They took the stakes, took responsibility to get there. You tend to take those chances and you also tend to get out. They played really well,” said Sanju.
