IPL 2024: Shivam Dube Takes First Bowling Stint, Sends Jonny Bairstow Packing with Golden Duck After Batting
Misfire with the bat, but some magic with the ball. Chennai Super Kings’ Shivam Dubey showed another side of his all-round ability for the first time this IPL season, as he took the wicket of Punjab Kings’ Jonny Bairstow. PBKS got off to a dull start as opener Prabhasimran Singh fell prey to debutant Richard Gleeson. But Bairstow and Riley Rosso then took complete control, stifling a depleted CSK bowling order due to Deepak Chahar’s injury, as well as at will, in the first over. From the options, skipper Gaekwad bowled Dubey to give him a chance to rotate his hands with the ball for the first time in the IPL this season.
And Dubey promptly delivered a brilliant delivery to the dangerous Jonny Bairstow which took the edge of the Englishman’s bat and was caught behind the stumps by MS Dhoni. Dubey got off to a disappointing start with the bat today as the southpaw was undone by Harpreet Brar’s 2-ball wicket. His poor performance came to light today after his announcement in India’s 2024 T20 World Cup squad just yesterday.
Dubey was knocking the door of the national team for a long time. He was exceptional in the last season of IPL where CSK won their fifth title, where he played an impressive knock in the final against Gujarat Titans. The southpaw came in to bat at No. 3 and scored an unbeaten 35, including two sixes. He has also been one of CSK’s most reliable batsmen so far this season, playing a perfect hard-hitting second fiddle against skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who himself has been in blistering form so far and claimed the Orange Cap with his fifty today.
Dubey has represented India in 21 T20Is so far in his career. He has scored 276 runs with eight wickets.
