Mixed Reactions to Kohli’s Performance

While Kohli’s exceptional form and status as the only batter to surpass the 300-run mark have garnered praise, some critics have raised concerns about his strike rate. RCB’s lackluster performance in the tournament, with just one win from five matches, has intensified the scrutiny on Kohli’s batting approach. Kohli’s century, albeit scored off 67 deliveries, has come under scrutiny as one of the joint-slowest hundreds in IPL history. However, defenders of Kohli argue that his cautious approach was necessary due to the lack of support from the other end, with wickets falling consistently.

Support from Kohli’s Camp

In response to the criticism, Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has vehemently defended the batting maestro, questioning the cricket knowledge of those criticizing him. Sharma emphasized Kohli’s ability to maintain a strike rate of 130-135 despite the pressure of wickets falling. Batting legend Brian Lara has also come out in support of Kohli, highlighting the importance of considering batting position when assessing strike rate. Lara explained that while an opener may aim for a strike rate of 130-140, a middle-order batsman like Kohli might need to accelerate to 150 or 160, especially in the latter stages of an innings.
