IPL 2024: Virat Kohli in Heated Debate with Umpire Over Dismissal in KKR vs RCB Match
Virat Kohli never holds back his punches on and off the field. Today was the second day where the talismanic batsman went to bat for his team and himself after RCB’s loss against KKR, as footage of Kohli interacting with the match umpire went viral online. KKR took to the crease with batting first, courtesy Phil Salt’s blistering start, followed by a measured fifty by skipper Shreyas Iyer and then Ramandeep Singh’s late surge helped KKR post a mammoth total of 22/6 in 20 overs against RCB.
It was a chase that went down to the wire. Controversial calls by umpires for both sides, quickfire blitzes by batsmen throughout the batting order and timely wickets: it was all there, with the most controversial call today being Kohli’s dismissal. The first delivery of the third over bowled by Harshit Rana was above the waist but Kohli was outside his crease and Hawk Eye technology predicted that this would not have happened had the RCB opener been inside the popping crease. Kohli reviewed the decision after lobbing the ball back to the bowler for an easy catch. However, with the TV umpire not ruling in his favour, he lost his cool and engaged in an animated chat with the on-field umpires before walking off the field.

After the match, footage of Kohli engaging in a spirited conversation with the umpire also surfaced. After a tough start, the likes of Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar dismissed the KKR bowlers with ease and settled RCB. But a sensational couple, one from Narine and the other from Russell, ensured that the duo picked up two wickets each and silenced the RCB ranks once again. When all hope was dashed in the last over, with Dinesh Karthik not at the crease and KKR needing 22 off the last over, Karn Sharma came up with three sixes off Starc, but when it was most needed, as KKR out was done A thrilling 1 run win.
