ISL Match Result: Mumbai Indians Indian Beat Bengaluru FC 2-0 Via Vikram Pratap Singh Brace

ISL Match Result: Mumbai City FC posted their eighth win of the ISL 2023-24 season as they beat Bengaluru FC 2-0 at the Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday (February 19).

Vikram Pratap Singh (42′ 58′) scores a brace to seal the crucial three points.

Mumbai City FC are now fourth with 28 points in 14 games while Bengaluru FC remain 10th on the 12-team ISL points table with 15 points in 16 games. Mumbai are also level on points with third-placed FC Goa, who are ahead on goal difference.

Petr Kratky included Valpuia and Yoell van Nieff in the starting lineup for this match; the former was deployed on the right wing in an advanced role. With the exception of a few strong efforts from Suresh Singh Wangjam and Nikhil Poojary, the Blues’ front line was unable to test home team goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa despite controlling possession (56%), taking 14 shots to the Islanders’ 7.

In the twelfth minute, Wangjam came agonizingly close to scoring his third goal in the ISL when his left-footed strike ricocheted off the bar. Soon after, Poojary connected up with Harsh Patre to take a shot, but Lachenpa remained calm and held his line even though the Blues were piling on the pressure.

The match was broken by Vikram in the 42nd minute, although five minutes earlier, Bengaluru FC’s star player Sunil Chhetri had a chance to break the deadlock with a headed effort off a Chinglensana Singh delivery that narrowly missed the mark.

Vikram’s opening goal, nevertheless, was not without drama: before the midfielder sent up a pass for Lallianzuala Chhangte in the inside channel of the right flank, Chhetri may have fouled Lalengmawia Ralte. The Islanders decided to take the advantage, and to get the crowd excited, Chhangte squared up a pass that Vikram placed into the net.
