Jiah Khan suicide: Sooraj Pancholi’s mother Zarina Wahab makes shocking claim, says ‘she had tried 4-5 times…’
Bollywood actress Jiah Khan tragically died by suicide on June 3, 2013, leaving the film industry and her fans in shock. At the time of her death, Jiah was dating actor Sooraj Pancholi, who was arrested on charges of abetment to suicide. His arrest was based on a six-page note allegedly written by Jiah, which mentioned issues in their relationship, including mentions of an “intimate relationship, physical abuse, and mental and physical torture” she reportedly faced. In 2023, after a decade-long legal battle, Sooraj Pancholi was acquitted of all charges.
Now, Sooraj’s mother, actress Zarina Wahab, has opened up about the case. In an interview with Lehre, Zarina made a surprising revelation about Jiah, stating that she had attempted suicide several times even before meeting Sooraj. She said, “Before meeting my son, she tried to take her life 4-5 times. But unfortunately, when it was my son’s turn, it happened.” Zarina expressed how the case took a toll on their family, especially on Sooraj, whose professional life was deeply affected.
Zarina, who was last seen in Devara: Part 1, emphasised her belief in karma, saying, “If someone’s life is spoiled by lies, it will eventually come back to them as interest.” She added that their family patiently waited for Sooraj to be proven innocent, even though it took 10 years. Speaking about Jiah, she said, “Everyone knows what she used to do. I don’t want to say more and lower myself to that level.”
Jiah Khan made her Bollywood debut in 2007 with Nishabd, starring alongside Amitabh Bachchan. She later appeared in successful films like Aamir Khan’s Ghajini and Akshay Kumar’s Housefull, which turned out to be her last movie.
The decade-long case deeply impacted Sooraj Pancholi’s career, but now, with his acquittal, his family is relieved to leave this chapter behind and move forward.
