During an interview on Aap Ki Adalat, Kangana said, “I feel that these women have blessed me, and they want me to do this. Many have tried to make Rani Laxmibai’s story, but I believe she wanted me to portray her. I hold romantic ideas about this. I think Jayalalithaa wanted Kangana to play her, and I feel Indira Gandhi also wanted me to take on her role. I never had the desire to play Indira Gandhi, but it felt like I was compelled to do so.”
When asked whether West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati was next on her list, Kangana laughed and responded, “Nothing is impossible for an actor, but I feel that as a leader, I would love to play Mayawati.”
About Emergency
Kangana Ranaut’s political drama has been raising eyebrows ever since the film’s trailer was released. The narrative delves into the life of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who imposed a 21-month Emergency period from 1975 to 1977.
Following the trailer’s release, the film has become embroiled in major controversy, facing backlash from several Sikh groups for allegedly depicting them in a negative light. Additionally, the movie has yet to receive clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
