Filmmaker Kiran Rao, who is occupied with numerous promotional events spanning various cities for her ‘Laapataa Ladies,’ discussed the potential of submitting the film for the Oscars next year.
The film, set in rural India, revolves around the mystery of two missing brides. Scheduled for theatrical release on March 1 this year, the film promises an intriguing narrative. During a recent screening of the film in Delhi, Aamir Khan’s ex-wife stressed, ‘If viewers and the nation embrace their work, it would be the ultimate recognition.’
Kiran said: “Our primary recognition comes from the audience’s response at the box office. If the viewers and the nation appreciate our work, that would be the greatest accolade for us.” The director mentioned that they would contemplate submitting the film for the Oscars next year based on the audience’s response.
She reportedly added “There is a specific community tasked with assessing and selecting the finest films of the year, and if our film is deemed worthy, we will submit it for the prestigious Oscars. However, for now, we are eagerly anticipating the recognition we are yet to receive on March 1, 2024, hinting at the film’s release.”
