Lalit Modi makes BIG revelation on Dawood Ibrahim, reason behind leaving India and death threat from..
New Delhi: In a shocking revelation, Lalit Modi, the founder of the Indian Premier League (IPL), said that he left India not due to legal troubles but because of death threats from underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. To recall, Modi left India in 2010.
In a recent episode of Raj Shamani’s podcast, Figuring Out, Lalit Modi said, “I left the country when I received death threats. At that time, there were no legal issues that compelled me to leave. I received threats from Dawood Ibrahim because he wanted to fix matches. I refused to participate in match-fixing. For me, the anti-corruption campaign in cricket was extremely important, and I felt it was crucial to uphold the spirit of the game.”
Lalit Modi said that his security guard urged him to use the VIP gate at the airport for safety while exiting. The situation escalated further when senior police officials informed him that he was on a hit list and could only be guaranteed protection for 12 hours.
“Deputy Commissioner of Police Himanshu Roy was waiting for me at the airport. He told me, ‘We can no longer protect you. Your life is in danger. We can only ensure your safety for the next 12 hours.’ From there, I was taken to the Four Seasons Hotel in Mumbai,” Modi said.
Modi further mentioned that he could return to India “any day.” He added, “I could return to India tomorrow morning, but that’s not the issue. Legally, I am not a fugitive. There isn’t a single case against me in any court. If there is, please present it.”
Lalit Modi has always been in the hit list of D-company. In an interview, Chhota Shakeel, a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim, said that a team of sharpshooters, acting on the orders of the underworld don, had reached Bangkok where Lalit Modi was residing.
Chhota Shakeel claimed that he and his team of sharpshooters arrived at the hotel where Lalit Modi was to be assassinated. However, the former IPL chairman managed to escape, reportedly alerted by someone in time.
