LeT terrorist, a retired Army personnel, arrested from New Delhi Railway Station
New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, an alleged member of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) module operating in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara was arrested from New Delhi Railway Station, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Riyaz Ahmad Rather, a resident of Kupwara district, is a retired Army personnel. He was arrested by the Delhi Police on Sunday. According to officials, the accused has played an instrumental role in receiving arms and ammunition from across the Line of Control (LoC).
Accused involved in receiving arms from across LoC
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Railway, KPS Malhotra said that information was received from the investigation agencies in Jammu and Kashmir that one Riyaz was wanted in the recent terror module case busted by them where five people were arrested and incriminating material were recovered. Jammu Kashmir Police had recently arrested five persons from Kupwara module and recovered incriminating material including five AK rifles, five AK magazines, 16 small AK rounds. These arms and ammunition were sent by Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK)-based LeT terrorist handlers Manzoor Ahmed Shaikh alias Shakoor and Qazi Mohammad Khushal, Malhotra said, adding that both were operating from across the border.
According to the senior police officer, Riyaz was involved in hatching a conspiracy along with one Khursheed Ahmad Rather and Ghulam Sarwar Rather — both already arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police — in receiving consignment of arms and ammunition from across the LoC by the terrorist handlers.
How police arrested LeT terrorist
The officer further said that they were informed that Riyaz was on the run and world reach New Delhi Railway Station in the wee hours. Acting on the information, police set up a team and deployed it at the Railway station. The accused was identified and nabbed by the team while he was trying to escaped from the exit gate number-1 in the early hours.
Riyaz and his friend Altaf had left for Delhi from Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur on Friday and reached Hazarat Nizamuddin railway station around 3 pm on Saturday. They had boarded Mahakaushal Express, according to police. The duo later reached New Delhi Railway Station an auto-rickshaw. Riyaz had planned to go to some other hideout, they said. Riyaz and his friend Altaf retired from the Indian Army on January 31, 2023. One mobile phone and one SIM card have been recovered from Riyaz’s possession, they said.
