Maharashtra crime: Minor girl from Nepal raped by Instagram friend, police arrest accused
In a shocking case reported from Mumbai, a minor from Nepal was allegedly raped by a 22-year-old man she had met through Instagram.
Police said that some people spotted the girl in a local train in Mumbai and seeing her disheveled state, took her to the police.
Girl narrates ordeal
According to police, the 15-year-old left her home in Nepal for Maharashtra, to meet a man she had befriended on Instagram. She is an Indian girl, who lives in Nepal with her family, police said. According to her, she first took a bus from Nepal and reached Gorakhpur in UP. From here she took a train for Mumbai. She alighted at Kalyan station where the boy was waiting for her.
According to the girl she had not informed anyone at her home about her plan. In fact her parents didn’t even know that she had been chatting with some youth on Instagram for almost a month. Also, the 2 had exchanged numbers and used to connect on call too. The boy had promised to marry the girl when she came to India. She initially refused but he threatened to kill himself and the girl left home without informing anyone.
Once she reached Kalyan, the youth received her at the station. He took her to Mumbra, where he had already rented a house. He confined her in that house and raped her. On the same day in the evening, he took her to Diva station and bought her a ticket in the local train and vanished from the station.
The girl then boarded a local and got off at Dadar station. Several passengers travelling in the same train noticed the girl and sensed that something was definitely wrong. They alerted the police. The police took the girl to a hospital, where doctors confirmed that she had been sexually harassed. The girl is still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Accused caught, booked under POCSO Act
The accused was caught by the police within a day. This was so because the girl remembered his phone number and the police were able to track him through his mobile location in no time.
He was booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and also under the provisions of the POCSO Act. The Child Welfare Committee was also given a copy of the FIR, for the girl is a minor. The girl’s parents were also informed and they have already left for India.
Talking about the accused, the police said, that the man does odd jobs in Mumbai. He had seized the girl’s phone and deleted all her chats with him, in order to hide his crime. The case will be handled by the Mumbra Police.
