Major accident in the Indus River in Pakistan, 15 people drowned after a boat capsized, and 4 still missing
At least 15 people drowned when a boat capsized in the Indus River in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday. Officials associated with the rescue operation said that the accident took place in the Kund Park area of Nowshera district, where a large number of people had gathered to celebrate Eid.
Officials said they rescued 11 people. He said that the search for the four missing people is going on. He said that rescue teams from Nowshera, Swabi and Mardan are taking part in the search operation.
At least 17 people were killed and 38 others were injured when a bus carrying pilgrims fell into a deep gorge near a border town in Pakistan’s Sindh and Balochistan provinces. The pilgrims were on their way to the remote Muslim Sufi shrine Shah Noorani in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district when their bus fell into a ditch in Hub city on Wednesday, police said. The place where the accident occurred is about 100 kilometres away from Karachi.
Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed condolences over the incident and said that it seems the driver lost control at a turn due to which the bus fell into a ditch. All the passengers were residents of Thatta city of Sindh province. Naqvi said that the vehicle left Thatta at around 2 pm on Wednesday and met with an accident at around 8 pm on Wednesday.
A local police officer in the hub said the dead and injured were taken to Karachi Civil Hospital. The bodies were identified, some of which were from the same family. Bad roads, lack of safety awareness and blatant disregard for traffic rules often lead to fatal accidents in Pakistan.
