Man gets 200 skin cancers scraped off because of never using a sunscreen; see disturbing pictures
In a shocking case, pictures of a man surfaced, a patient who had to get approximately 200 cancers removed off his skin, and it was a consequence of NEVER wearing sunscreen.
Leigh Raaschou was a lifeguard who spent most of their time outside under the brutal Australian sun. But he was not quite aware of the need for sun protection formula (SPF) until permanent disfigurement and horrific wounds formed. Not just this, he never wore a hat either and this led to the formation of skin grafts and approximately 200 skin cancers had to be cut off to save him.
Disturbing images of Raaschou emerged where he was seen covered in blemishes, and scares, and his left eye, too, appeared to have swollen shut. Sun exposure caused him to develop melanoma and other complications. The tumour reached his bone and the skull, too, had to be taken out. Doctors then placed a titanium plate in its place. An infection also formed between the plate and the brain which had to be removed too.
What are sunscreens?
Sunscreen is the most important element of the daily skincare routine. But it has often been looked at as a product that is part of an elaborate skincare regimen – however, as per experts, it should be non-negotiable not just to dodge tanning but also to mitigate the risk of developing skin cancer or sunburn. Many take pride in never using a sun protection formula (SPF), only to regret it later in life.
What are the side effects of never wearing a sunscreen?
In an interaction with News9Live, Dr Kritika Bansal, Senior Resident, Department of Dermatology, Venerology and Leprosy, Sharda Hospital, spoke about the risks of never wearing an SPF.
