Mercedes-Benz Recalls More Than 1 Lakh SUVs Over Stalling Risk In US
The German automaker, Mercedes-Benz has issued two separate recalls for SUVs prompted by safety concerns. Among these two, the first recall addresses the problem with the transmission of some GLE and GLS models in the US, as per Carscoops’ report.
It covers over 1.05 lakh units of SUVs. Meanwhile, the second recall is for the vehicles affected by a potential risk of brake pedal becoming inoperative for 2024 GLE.
The transmission issue is prevalent in the SUVs manufactured between 2020 and 2023. As per the report, the problem has been noticed in vehicles with six-cylinder engines paired with a nine-speed automatic. Among the 1.05 lakh affected vehicles are 32,308 units of GLE 450s and 72,763 units of GLS 450s.
The issue came to light back in March 2022. However, the German automaker struggled to zero down on the problem until May 2023. This was made possible by collecting data from a significant number of vehicles in the market. After a detailed investigation, multiple factors were found to cause the problem which was later traced to the SUV’s transmission software.
According to Carscoops, after conducting an investigation, the car manufacturer found that an issue occurs when the vehicle shifts from seventh gear to sixth. If the GLE or GLS tries to cancel the shift during the downshift while the temperature of the transmission fluid is low, and the 48-volt starter-alternator tries to recover, the engine may stall.
