Meta Quest 3 Lite: Everything we know so far about the pocket friendly headset
The upcoming headset may be powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip.
Apple Vision Pro may be the one to revolutionise Mixed Reality headsets, Meta might make them mainstream with its upcoming Quest 3 Lite headset.
While not much is known about it, a recently leaked render gives us an idea of what the upcoming headset may look like.
According to a post on X by VR accessory seller VRpanda, the much-anticipated headset will be called ‘Meta Quest 3 Lite’ but may lack pass-through capabilities and miss out on hand tracking features. The render also suggests the upcoming headset will look like the Quest 3 without the additional cameras.
Several sources have hinted that the upcoming headset, which may be called ‘Meta Quest 3 Lite’ will use the Snapdragon XR2 Gen2 chipset, which also powers last year’s Quest 3. Rumour also has it that the company will reduce the price of the headset by not selling the headset with controllers, but nothing is certain at the moment.
While the render suggests the company may cut down on Augmented Reality, Meta Reality Labs Director of XR Tech Paul Furgale hinted in a blog post that “passthrough and MR will be a standard feature on all future headsets” soon after the company launched the Quest 3.
The newly leaked render also contradicts earlier reports which suggest that the Meta Quest 3 Lite will have passthrough capabilities, so we suggest you take this information with a huge grain of salt.
In March last year, VR vice president Mark Rabkin told The Verge they are working on a budget-friendly headset internally known as Ventura, which will “pack the biggest punch at the most attractive price point in the VR consumer market”. The company is also planning to take on the Apple Vision Pro with an upcoming Quest UI update, which will be rolled out sometime later this year and introduce several augmented reality-based features.
