Meta Takes a Step Back from Apple’s Vision Pro: Future Strategy Revealed
The Meta seems to be backtracking on its plans to take on Apple in the premium headset market. The company had signed up with LG to create an alternative to the Vision Pro over the next few years, but those plans have been put on hold by the Meta in favor of something cheaper and more up its alley. Details about the update come via a report from The Information which says that Meta has asked the team to stop working on the premium device as it focuses on the popular Quest series and Ray Ban smart glasses.
Meta was planning a 2027 launch for the rumored Quest Pro headset but Apple’s struggle to see the $3,499 (roughly Rs. 2.90 lakh) Vision Pro headset since its launch earlier this year seems to be the right move. The Quest headsets come at a reasonable $499.99 (Rs. 40,00 approx) which makes it more affordable and manageable for consumers.
Meta’s deal with LG was done to help the company get displays for advanced mixed reality tech running on Meta’s Horizon platform customized for headsets like Vision Pro and premium headgear. Companies need products like the Vision Pro to demonstrate their ambitions but they also need a product to fit into a market with people happy to pay big bucks for devices that are still catering to a niche audience. Meta’s Zuckerberg has spoken about the impact of Apple’s headset on the XR market but seems happy to retain interest without blowing all the cash on a product that may never become a best-seller for the company.
