Mumbai ragpicker held for killing 70-year-old woman for money
A Mumbai ragpicker was arrested for allegedly killing a 70-year-old woman to loot about Rs 3,000 that she had saved up in Mumbai`s Kandivali area on Wednesday, an official said, reported news agency PTI.
Accused Mansoor Sheikh (51) and victim Anusaya Sawant lived on a pavement near Hindustan Naka at Charkop in the western suburb, reported PTI.
The Mumbai ragpicker had recently learnt that Sawant had saved up some money. He decided to kill her and flee with the money.
In the early hours of Wednesday, the Mumbai ragpicker fatally attacked the elderly woman with a stone and ran away with her cash, which was about Rs 3,000, the official said, reported PTI.
After being alerted about the crime, the police launched a probe and arrested Sheikh. He has been booked for murder, the official added, reported PTI.
In another case, the Navi Mumbai police have registered a murder case against a 27-year-old man in connection with the discovery of a body from the water tank of a dilapidated building recently, an official said, reported PTI.
Uran resident Sayarali Jalil Sheikh was booked on Wednesday under IPC section 302 on the complaint of the brother of victim Imdadul Pachu Sheikh (35), he said, reported PTI.
