Details of incident
According to the complaint filed by the victim, she was married to a man named Meraj in 2022. Following their marriage, she endured constant harassment from Meraj and his family for dowry. Despite her inability to meet their demands, she suffered daily physical abuse.
During her pregnancy, she faced further mistreatment as her in-laws denied her proper nutrition and medical care upon learning that she was carrying a girl child. The situation worsened when she experienced labour pain and her in-laws refused to take her to the hospital, leading to the death of the unborn child due to poisoning in the womb.
After the loss of her child, the victim sought refuge at her maternal home, only to be persuaded to return by her husband’s apologies. However, upon her return, Meraj allegedly revealed that he had taken a substantial loan in her name. He allegedly threatened her, stating that if she were to die, the loan would be forgiven.
The victim further claimed that Meraj resorted to physical violence and eventually abandoned her on a highway after uttering talaq three times.
