NEET Result Irregularities: ‘Will Be Your Voice in Parliament,’ Rahul Gandhi To Students Amid NEET Result Row

New Delhi: After paper leak reports, writ petitions, and allegations of inflation of marks in the NEET-UG medical entrance exam, the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday over the medical entrance row, saying the alleged “irregularities” in the examination have devastated more than 24 lakh students even before he takes oath for a new term in office. The issue – NEET UG Result Irregularities – also took a political turn with several parties raising concerns about the authenticity of the national exam for medical courses.
Gandhi assured students in the country that he will become their voice in Parliament and strongly raise the issues related to their future. Sharing a post in Hindi on X, Rahul Gandhi wrote,” Narendra Modi has not even taken oath yet and the scam in NEET exam has devastated more than 24 lakh students and their families. 6 students from the same exam centre top the exam with maximum marks, many get such marks which are technically not possible, but the government is continuously denying the possibility of paper leak. Congress had made a robust plan to deal with this ‘paper leak industry’ which is being run in collusion with the education mafia and the government machinery. In our manifesto, we had pledged to free the students from paper leak by making a law. Today, I assure all the students of the country that I will become your voice in Parliament and strongly raise the issues related to your future. The youth have expressed confidence in INDIA – INDIA will not allow their voice to be suppressed.”

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced that the education ministry has set up a four-member panel to review the grace marks awarded to more than 1,500 candidates. “A high-powered committee has been set up to review the results of over 1,500 candidates. The four-member panel headed by a former UPSC chairman will submit its recommendations within a week and the results of these candidates might be revised,” NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh said at a press conference here. “The awarding of grace marks has not impacted the qualifying criteria of the exam and the review of results of the affected candidates will not impact the admission process,” he added.
According to experts, the mark inflation in the NEET UG 2024 result is expected to make securing a spot in medical school this year more difficult. Some aspiring students have turned to online platforms to demand the cancellation of the results and a re-examination. It is to be noted that six students from a single exam centre topped the exam with maximum marks, while many got such marks which are technically not possible, but the government is continuously denying the possibility of paper leak, the former Congress chief said.
Gandhi said the Congress had made a robust plan to deal with this ‘paper leak industry’ running in connivance with the education mafia and the government machinery. The youth have expressed faith in the INDIA bloc which will not let their voice be suppressed, he asserted.
NEET Result Row: NTA Denies any irregularities
The NTA also denied any irregularities and said the changes made in the NCERT textbooks and grace marks for losing time at the examination centres were some of the reasons behind the students scoring higher marks. The issue has taken a political turn with several parties raising concerns about the authenticity of the national exam for medical courses.
“While the outcome of the investigation in aforesaid cases is awaited, NTA has categorically denied any case of paper leak. NTA also issued a detailed Press Release on 06 May 2024 stating that there has not been any paper leak as was being circulated on social media. The same stand has been reiterated and NTA maintains that the integrity of the examination was not compromised,” NTA in an official notice said(June 6).
