Not cars, this burglar steals only engines from vehicles in Delhi
The Delhi Police have arrested a burglar who was interested more in stealing engines of the cars than the entire vehicles. The accused has been identified as Shivam Kumar, who allegedly carried out over 200 burglaries in the last six months.
Every time, he managed to give a slip to cops, but this time his luck finally ran out. The 25-year-old thief was caught on March 2 when he was about to steal the engine from an Innova car near Safdarjung Bus Terminal.
Accused Shivam Kumar spotted by car driver
However, Shivam was spotted by the car driver Shiv Yadav. The accused fired at Yadav and his friend when they tried to catch hold of him. Yadav’s friend suffered bullet injury in the incident. The robber Shivam Kumar managed to flee the spot with the engine, according to a report in Hindustan Times.
Police were later informed about the incident. According to DCP (southwest) Rohit Meena, a team was formed to nab the robber. Police believed Shivam indulged in repeat criminal behaviour as there were similar incidents of car engine thefts in the area.
CCTV led cops to track Delhi car engine thief
“After scanning CCTV footage, police came to know that the accused came on a scooter. We mapped his entire route backwards up to 25-km from Kotla Mubarakpur to Uttam Nagar which led the cops to his trail,” said DCP Rohit Meena.
After a thorough search and CCTV scanning, police finally tracked down the scooter Shivam used. However, the scooter did not not have a number plate and face of the accused looked blurred in CCTV footage.
Police then turned to human intelligence and with the help of its informers got information about the accused. He was regularly seen in Matiala area where a police team was sent to track him. Shivam was caught by police when he visited the area.
