The issue of farmers is gaining momentum as farmers of Punjab and Haryana are marching towards Delhi demanding guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) law. Due to the gathering of more than 20,000 farmers, security forces have sealed the borders of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. It is noteworthy that the government is continuously working for the welfare of farmers, launching schemes and providing assistance to increase their income. Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY):

To deal with irrigation related challenges, the Central Government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana. The aim of this scheme is to ensure that water reaches every farm. It involves various elements such as sourcing, distribution, field application and development practices, aimed at attracting farmers by offering incentives to achieve higher crop yields.

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana:

The government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana to provide financial assistance to farmers in the event of crop loss due to natural disasters, pest attacks or drought. This scheme encourages farmers to bring their crops under insurance coverage, and financial assistance for losses is provided under the scheme.

Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY):

Under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana, the Government of India provides financial assistance of Rs 50,000 per hectare to farmers. The scheme promotes organic farming practices including organic processes, certification, labelling, packaging and transportation. The government aims to support farmers economically while encouraging organic farming.

Kisan Credit Card (KCC):

To ensure that farmers have adequate credit for their agricultural expenses, the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme was launched in 1998 by the Central Government. The scheme provides agricultural loans at concessional interest rates and provides 4% interest subvention to farmers. The credit card is designed to help farmers with their farming or agricultural expenses.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana:

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana launched by the Central Government provides an amount of Rs 6,000 to farmers annually. This amount is distributed in three installments every four months. The scheme is open for any farmer in the country to apply for, and the funds are transferred directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries.
