Pokemon Series Star Rachael Lillis Dies at 46 Due to Battle Cancer

Rachael Lillis, who portrayed beloved characters in the Pokémon series like Misty and Jessie, left for heavenly abode on August 10. The 46-year-old voice artist has been fighting breast cancer since May. Her co-star in Pokémon, Veronica Taylor, who provided the voice of Ash Ketchum, the main character, shared the shocking news. Taylor honoured her friend and coworker in a moving statement that she shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Sharing the post on social media, she wrote, “We all know Rachael Lillis from the many wonderful roles she played. She filled our Saturday mornings and before/after school hours with her beautiful voice, her terrific comic timing, and her remarkable acting skills. #RachaelLillis (sic).”
“I was lucky enough to know Rachael as a friend. She had unlimited kindness and compassion, even until the very end. She had a great sense of humor, was wonderful to be with, incredibly intelligent, and had such a memory. She worked hard and cared deeply (sic), ” she wrote further.

Anime World is in mourning with the news of beloved Pokémon voice actor Rachael Lilli’s passing. One of the users wrote, “Misty wasn’t always my favorite character but I know part of me is going to miss her terribly as 1/3 of that iconic trio. (Amazing also as Jessie and Jigglypuff.” Another user said, “I recently read the GoFundMe page that her sister wrote and I think my heart just broke into a few pieces but at least she’s at peace and no longer in pain like her sister said I know that you’ll get through this because you are strong.” Netizens dropped characters from one of the popular TV shows from the 90s in the comment section.
In the 1990s, Lillis started her career as a voice actor and soon rose to prominence in the animation industry. In the 1998 launch of the first Pokémon anime series, she provided the voice of Misty, the water-type gym leader. Misty rose to prominence in the Pokémon universe, ranking among the most recognizable characters along with Ash, Pikachu, and Brock. The notorious Jessie from Team Rocket, who together with her companion James and their talking Meowth became a cherished nemesis in the series, was also portrayed by Lillis.
Lillis voiced several other characters in addition to Pokémon, including as the fish Pokémon Goldeen and the pink, singing Pokémon Jigglypuff. She provided voices for video games, like as Nintendo’s well-liked Super Smash Bros. fighting game series, in addition to TV shows.
