In the summer season, not only does the outside temperature increase but due to this the internal temperature of the body also increases. Dr Pankaj Verma, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine, Narayana Hospital, Gurugram, says that it is also known as heat injury. This is a medical emergency. Experts say that when our body remains exposed to sunlight for a long time, it becomes overheated. Due to this, the risk of dizziness or dehydration may increase. But to avoid this, preparations should be made in advance. Let us know from the experts.
Body dehydration
Dr Pankaj Verma says that the problem of sunstroke in summer is quite common. When there are gusts of hot air and the temperature is very high, you may suffer from heat stroke. Due to this, the fluid inside our body starts drying up, due to which the amount of sodium and water decreases. Due to heat stroke, you are also likely to suffer from heat oedema (swelling of the body), heat rash, heat cramps (stiffness in the body) heat syncope (fainting), etc.
So what are the methods of prevention?
To protect yourself from heat stroke, try not to go out unnecessarily when the heat is at its peak. Go out in the sun only with an umbrella. Put sunglasses on your eyes and a cap on your head. Wear loose and cotton clothes. To keep the body hydrated, you can drink lemon water, buttermilk, lassi, coconut water or wood apple sherbet. Apart from this, drink glucose or electrolyte drinks.
According to experts, take care of your eating habits also. Include things like kiwi, watermelon and cucumber in your diet. This will naturally cause water deficiency in your body.
