Putin’s big WARNING to Ukraine and Turkey, as Russian army fires Zircon hypersonic missile, will Zelensky and Erdogan…
Russia-Ukraine war: Amidst the recent escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war and the resurgence of West and Turkey-backed rebel insurgents in Syria, Moscow conducted a major war exercise as it test fired its Zircon hypersonic missile in the Mediterranean Sea. The display of power by the Russian military under President Vladimir Putin comes at a time when Russia is embroiled in an ever-escalating war with Russia, and reemergence of insurgency in Syria, where Turkey-backed rebel militants have captured the city of Aleppo following a major assault.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a key ally of Russia in the Middle East, along with Iran, now faces a real threat to his regime which the rebels aim to overthrow.
Notably, a sizeable amount of Russian troops and warships are stationed in Syria, and Assad, who has so far thwarted rebel designs to overthrow him, faces a tough challenges as both Iran and Russia are preoccupied with other conflicts in their respective regions.
The Russia-Ukraine is now threatening to spill over into other neighbouring countries owing to the recent escalation which saw Russia’s famed S-400 missile defense system, reportedly being destroyed by Ukrainian forces in a recent attack. Additionally, the Russian Army has suffered a major setback as it has been unable to recapture the Kursk region from Ukraine.
Russia’s show of power
According to analysts, Russia’s military drills in the Mediterranean Sea serve as a clear warning to Ukraine and its NATO allies, as well as to Turkey, which has taken advantage of Moscow’s preoccupation in the Russia-Ukraine war to revive the rebel insurgency against the Assad regime in Syria.
As per reports, Russia fired its advanced Zircon supersonic missiles from the Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Golovko class warships in the Mediterranean Sea, which are part of the Russian Navy’s strike group deployed in the region. A video released by the Russian Army on X showed the Zircon missile being fired from a warship.
The naval war drill, which was conducted under the supervision of Russian Navy chief Admiral Alexander Moiseyev, saw over 1,000 soldiers, 10 warships, and 24 fighter jets equipped with Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, taking part in the military exercise during which Russia also fired Caliber cruise missiles from a nuclear submarine, reports said.
Warning to Syrian rebels, Turkey
Experts believe the war drill is meant to send a message to the Turkey-backed rebels in Syria and Admiral Moiseyev has been sent to the region to fortify Syria’s defenses at the Tartus Naval Base, which is under Russian control. The military have made cleared Putin’s stance on Syrian rebels, making it clear that the Russian President will do everything in Moscow’s power to protect its ally.
According to analysts, Russia moved most of its air defense systems, fighter jets, and other key military assets from Syria to fight the war against Ukraine, gave Syrian rebels an opportunity to regroup and capture Aleppo, Syria’s second largest city.
