Quick and yummy: The perfect Sabudana Khichdi for vrat [Easy Recipe]

If there’s one food that is quintessential during vrats in India, it has to be Sabudana Khichdi. Made with tapioca pearls or sago, boiled potatoes, roasted peanuts, and a few spices, the Sabudana Khichdi recipe is most popular during the vrat days of Hindu festivals like Mahashivratri, Ekdashi and Navratri.

Sabudana is made from the roots of the cassava plant. It is rich in carbs, making it a fulfilling dish to have during fasts.

Try this tasty Sabudana Khichdi recipe, which is cooked with soaked sabudana and is non-sticky, fluffy, and fulfilling, keeping you fuller during the fast for a long time.

Sabudana Khichdi Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup ghee
  • 1/2 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 2 green chillies
  • 2 medium-sized boiled potatoes
  • 2.5 cups soaked sabudana
  • 1/2 cup coarsely ground roasted peanut powder
  • Rock Salt as per taste
  • Handful of coriander leaves
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Red chilli powder as required or optional
  • 1-2 tbsp sugar

Method:

  1. Wash and soak the sabudana overnight in very little water (just enough to cover sabudana).
  2. The next day, sabudana will puff up and be ready to make khichdi.
  3. Heat ghee in a kadhai and add cumin seeds, green chillies and boiled potatoes.
  4. Stir well and add soaked sabudana.
  5. Add red chilli powder, roasted peanut powder, rock salt, sugar, and lemon juice.
