Rahul out, Bumrah in: BCCI names updated Indian squad for 5th Test against England
The Board of Control for Cricket in India declared the Indian squad on Thursday for the fifth Test against England that will start from March 7 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala.
Seasoned batter KL Rahul has been ruled out of the game as the BCCI medical team is monitoring his fitness issue with concerned specialists from London, whereas Jasprit Bumrah will return to the team for the game after missing the fourth match that took place in Ranchi.
Meanwhile, off-spinner Washington Sundar will be leaving the squad to join his state team Tamil Nadu for their semi-final fixture of the Ranji Trophy that starts on March 2. If the team requires, he will join the Men in Blue back after that match.
Further, the BCCI revealed that speedster Mohammed Shami underwent surgery on his right heel on February 26 and he will soon go to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for rehabilitation.
“KL Rahul, whose participation in the final IDFC First Bank Test was subject to fitness, has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring him and coordinating with specialists in London for further management of his issue,” the official release from the BCCI read.
