‘Reopen UGC NET June 2024 Application Portal,’ ABVP Writes Letter to UGC Chairman
UGC NET 2024 Registration: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has written a letter to Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), urging him to reopen the application process for the UGC NET June cycle. According to the letter, admission to PhD programs in various universities has been based on UGC-NET results. However, several students could not register for the UGC-NET examination citing various reasons.
The Ministry of Education cancelled the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 18 in two shifts across different cities of the country, according to an official press release issued by the Ministry of Education. The exam was attended by 81 per cent of over 11.21 lakh registered candidates for the exam in 317 cities across the country. However, on June 19, the Ministry of Education cancelled the competitive examination. “On 19th June, 2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received certain inputs from National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the Examination. These inputs prima-facie indicate that the integrity of the aforesaid examination may have been compromised,” Ministry of Education in a press release said.
Sharing a post on X(previously Twitter), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad wrote, “It is worth noting that the UGC-NET (June, 2024) exam held on June 18 was canceled due to the apprehension of paper leak, now this exam will be held again from 21 August to 4 September 2024. ABVP has mentioned in its memorandum that it will be possible to get admission in PhD in various universities only through UGC NET score, this information was not available to many students; the online application portal should be reopened for the candidates for a short period.”
