Rohit Sharma EDGES MS Dhoni’s Feat, Breaks Multiple Records During India’s Win Over Ireland in T20 WC 2024
New York: India captain Rohit Sharma led from the front during the T20 World Cup 2024 opener versus Ireland at the Nassau County cricket ground in New York on Wednesday. Rohit hit an unbeaten 52* off 37 balls before retiring hurt and leaving the field. The Indian captain left the field with after hurting his shoulder. But, during his stay – he broke multiple records. Also, with the win, Rohit also went past MS Dhoni to become India’s most successful captain in T20Is in terms of wins. Rohit now has 42 wins as captain in 55 T20Is, going past Dhoni’s 41 (Super Over wins not counted) in 73.
During his blistering knock of 52* off 37 balls, he became the first cricketer to hit 600 sixes in T20Is.
The Indian captain also breaced the 4000-run mark in T20Is. By doing so, he became only the second batter after Virat Kohli to score more than 4000 runs in all three formats of the game.
With his 52-run knock yesterday, Rohit has now notched up 1000 runs at the T20 World Cup, the second Indian after Kohli.
“Quite unsure of what to expect from the pitch. Not aware on what it is to play like on a pitch that’s five months old. I don’t think the wicket settled down even when we batted second. There was enough for the bowlers. That’s pretty much what you gotta do. Try to hit those lengths consistently,” Rohit revealed the gameplan after India’s comfortable eight-wicket win.
India will take on Pakistan on June 9 at the same Nassau County in New York.
