Rohit Sharma Seen in Tears After India's Resounding Victory Over England in T20 World Cup Semi-final
Rohit Sharma wears his emotions on his sleeves, and for die-hard Indian cricket fans, there is perhaps no more heartbreaking image than a distraught Rohit Sharma during the 2019 World Cup semi-final. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, Rohit could not contain his emotions after England’s defeat at the hands of Adelaide. However, two years later, India turned the tables on England and handed the reigning champions a complete pasting in Guyana to reach the final of the biennial event. The reaction of skipper Rohit Sharma was worth watching.
After India beat England by 68 runs, cameras saw Rohit Sharma sitting outside the Indian changing room, almost on the verge of tears as his teammates, including Virat Kohli, went over to congratulate him on the win. Ravi Shastri said on air that there is relief on Rohit Sharma’s face. Rohit is seen at first distressed as he tries to hold back his tears, but when Virat Kohli reaches out to him for a high-five, Rohit covers his face, while Kohli, apparently, tries to console him.
Rohit was once again India’s main man, leading the charge with a 39-ball 57 as India posted 171/7 after a lengthy rain delay at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. On a slow turning wicket, India were at least 15 up, but England could never chase down, losing wickets at regular intervals and the Indian spinners falling victim in no time. Akshar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav took six wickets between them for just 42 runs in eight overs.
After the match, Rohit expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance. “Winning this game is very satisfying. We have worked really hard as a unit to get through this stage, and to win this game like this was a great effort from everyone. Our unity and collective effort was the key to our success.
“I thought we adapted to the conditions well. Conditions were a bit challenging. We had to adapt, and that’s been a success story for us so far. Until this game we have adapted well to the conditions. We played the conditions well. And then the bowlers and the batsmen, if they understand the conditions and play accordingly, things fall into place, and that’s what happened for us today. Very happy to see how we came out of this game,” said Rohit.
