Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Will NOT Have Big Role in Gautam Gambhir’s Coaching Tenure? Dale Steyn Makes Tall CLAIM
Delhi: Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has recently been appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. While there is much speculation over what will be the plan during his tenure, former South African cricketer Dale Steyn has made a massive claim. As per Steyn, senior cricketers in the team will not have a big role during Gambhir’s tenure. Hailing Gambhir’s aggression, Steyn reckons Gambhir’s aggressive style is what cricket needs.
“I’m a big fan of Gautam Gambhir. I love his aggression. He’s one of the few Indians I ever played against who came back at you, and I like that. I think he’s going to take that into the dressing room with guys like Virat and some of the other senior players who might not play as big a part anymore. I’m not too sure. Not just in India, but in world cricket, we need guys who are a little bit more aggressive and play the game a little bit harder,” Styen told Star Sports.
“We all seem to play in the leagues against each other, and we become quite friendly and friends. I like the way that he’s fierce on the field but a gentleman off the field. He’s also streetwise, a very smart cricketer, and has a great cricket brain. So I think from that point of view, he’s going to be fantastic for them too,” Styen added.
So, what would be the expectations from Gambhir?
Solid Working Relation With Kohli: It is no secret that Kohli and Gambhir have had a rough past despite hailing from the same state. The reason – both are super competitive. So, first up, all eyes would be on the relation Gambhir and Kohli share. If that is taken care off, then most things will fall in place.
WTC Title: After reaching the summit clash on two consecutive occasions, India failed to cross the final hurdle. In case, India make it to their third final, the expectation would be that they turn third-time lucky. Gambhir would be expected to help the side overcome the final hurdle.
