Russian State-Sponsored Hackers Trying To Breach Its Systems: Microsoft

Tech Giant Microsoft on Friday said that a Russian state-sponsored hacking group was trying to breach its systems again. As per Microsoft, the hacking group named, Midnight Blizzard, used information it stole from is corporate emails in January, reporter Reuters.

Notably, Microsoft is key provider of digital services and infrastructure to the US government. As per the tech giant, the hackers are linked to Russian intelligence and are focussed on penetrating Microsoft systems.

The Russian embassy in Washington has not responded yet over the development. The Russian Embassy has also not responded to Microsoft’s previous statements on Midnight Blizzard’s hacking activity.

In January this year, the tech giant had found the hackers tried to breach “a very small percentage” of its corporate email accounts, including that of members of top management.

It appears the hacking group, also known as Nobelium, is trying to use the data it stole then to break into Microsoft systems again, the company said, reported Reuters.

“In recent weeks, we have seen evidence that Midnight Blizzard is using information initially exfiltrated from our corporate email systems to gain, or attempt to gain, unauthorized access,” it said in a blog.
