Samsung Sets Ambitious Goal for Galaxy Ring, Plans Production of 400,000 Units

The Galaxy Ring, Samsung’s initial venture into the smart ring wearables category, is generating buzz as it gears up for a summer release.

With plans to produce a hefty 400,000 units right out of the gate, Samsung is showing confidence in this new product’s market potential. The anticipated launch in July, followed by sales in August, marks a significant step for Samsung into uncharted territory.

400,000 Unit Production Target Signals Confidence

According to a report by
The Elec
, Samsung is set to commence mass production of the Galaxy Ring as early as May. This strategic move is backed by an initial production target of 400,000 units. Samsung’s readiness to adjust production volumes based on consumer response underscores the company’s flexible approach towards this launch. The absence of part shortages and the device’s small form factor are expected to facilitate a smooth production ramp-up if demand exceeds initial forecasts.

Medical Certifications May Follow Later

However, the Galaxy Ring might initially miss out on some of the medical device features found in the Galaxy Watch series. Obtaining medical device certifications for functionalities like blood pressure monitoring, ECG measurement, and irregular heart rhythm notification could take additional time. Despite this, the Galaxy Ring has attracted considerable attention ahead of its launch, potentially setting the stage for other manufacturers to explore the smart ring segment.

Multi-Color Options, Nine Sizes, and Up to 9-Day Battery Life

Revealed at MWC, the Galaxy Ring’s design and potential capabilities have been compared to the Oura Ring. Though specific features remain officially unconfirmed by Samsung, speculation includes capabilities such as ECG, blood flow measurement, wireless payments, and device control. The company has confirmed the ring will be available in three colors (gold, silver, and black), offer nine sizes, and boast a battery life of up to nine days. Notably, the Galaxy Ring is designed to be compatible with all non-Galaxy Android phones, though it will not support iPhone integration at launch.

Likely Launch Date

The Galaxy Ring is set to launch in July at Samsung’s upcoming Unpacked event for its next-gen foldables, and you can probably buy it in August.
