Samsung started the rollout of One UI 6.1 update for older Galaxy devices last week. However, following the deployment of this AI-centric software update, numerous users across the web reported facing touchscreen issues with their Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra models. Some users have also reported that their screen has become completely unresponsive to touch inputs after updating to One UI 6.1. Samsung officially acknowledged the issue on Wednesday (April 3) and provided a solution. The South Korean company attributed the issue to compatibility conflicts with certain Google app features.

According to reports from users on platforms like Reddit and Samsung’s support forum, owners of Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra devices are experiencing erratic touch responses after the installation of the One UI 6.1 update. Through a communication on Samsung’s Korean support forum, the company has identified the touchscreen flaw and proposed a temporary fix. Samsung suggested that the Google Discover feed is responsible for the touchscreen performance glitches seen on the affected Galaxy S23 series smartphones.

Samsung recommends that affected users temporarily update the Google app to the latest version via Google Play, clear the app’s data, and then restart their devices to resolve the issue. To delete an app’s data, users can navigate to Settings > Apps > Google > Storage > Clear Data. It has been reported that Google is actively working on a permanent solution to this problem.

The global rollout of the One UI 6.1 update started last week for last year’s Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Tab S9 series. Numerous users have reported experiencing charging and fingerprint scanner issues on their Galaxy S23 models after installing the update.

The AI-centric One UI 6.1 was introduced back in January during the unveiling of the Galaxy S24 series. It brings forward a range of AI-powered functions under the Galaxy AI Experience umbrella. These features include Live Translate, Chat Assist, Note Assist and Circle to Search.
