School Holidays: July is a month of new beginning for school and college students as it marks the start of new academic session. After summer vacations that typically end in June, students resume their school studies and come to the classroom to embark on a new educational journey. This time also coincides with the onset of the monsoon season in many Indian states.
School Holidays in July 2024
The month of July has a total of seven holidays for students. The schools will remain shut on July 7, 2024 as it is a first Sunday and classes will also remain closed on July 14 as it is Second Sunday. Schools will further remain shut on July 17 on account of Muharram. Then again classes will be closed on 21 July and 28 July due to third Sunday and fourth Sunday.

Significance of Muharram
Muharram carries religious importance for both Sunni and Shia Muslims as it commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, who was killed in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. Muharram, marked by the Day of Ashura on the tenth day of Muharram, is a time of mourning for the Muslims. It is also a time of reflection for the Muslim community and the occasion also marks the beginning of the new Islamic year.
