Shantipur’s Toto driver transforms three-wheeler into a four-wheeler, delighting locals
Toto Transformation: In Shantipur, a battery-powered three-wheeler has been transformed into a four-wheeler. The man behind this innovation is Uttam Dutta, a resident of Bara Goswami Para in Shantipur.
A long-time Toto driver, Uttam couldn’t afford a four-wheeler but found a way to create one.
Journey of Innovation: Uttam embarked on a journey to convert a Toto car into a four-wheeler. This required a lot of experimentation and risk-taking. After two years of hard work, the result is a four-wheeler Toto Rickshaw, also known as a Maruti Van.
Bringing Ideas to Life: Two years ago, Uttam had the idea to convert his Toto car into a four-wheeler. With the help of a welding engineer from the Baigachi neighbourhood of Shantipur, he gradually brought his experimental design to reality. The car now resembles a fully powered four-wheeler.
Eco-friendly Innovation: The entire transformation process was environmentally friendly. The body of the Toto, made of iron and thick tin sheets, was repurposed to resemble a battery-powered Maruti van. Uttam’s business now runs on this car, ferrying passengers around Shantipur.
