Skoda Set to Reveal Its Smallest and Most Affordable EV Tomorrow; Launch Date for India Revealed
Skoda Auto, the Czech automaker, is gearing up to unveil its electric vehicle (EV) at its annual press conference tomorrow. Skoda Auto has released a teaser video for the new electric vehicle model ahead of its official debut. The new Skoda EV will be marketed as the brand’s smallest and most affordable EV ever. It is expected to be launched initially in international markets before entering India. The price of the upcoming Skoda EV in India will be around Rs. It is estimated to be 23 lakhs.
Additionally, Skoda also intends to launch the Enyaq EV in India by the end of 2024. The automaker hopes its new model will make electric transportation more accessible. The new electric vehicle will join Skoda’s existing global EV lineup, which includes the Enyaq EV in various configurations. Not much information is available about the future EV, but a teaser video shows it to have a hatchback-like appearance and narrow LED headlights with Skoda insignia. The new EV is believed to be built on Volkswagen Group’s MEB entry platform.
The new Skoda EV is expected to have two battery pack options: 38 kWh and 56 kWh. The upcoming Skoda EV is believed to have a maximum driving range of 450 kilometers on a single charge. The EV is expected to compete with vehicles like the Volkswagen ID.2 electric hatchback in global markets.
SKODA EV: When will it be launched in India?
The new Skoda EV will most likely be introduced in global markets initially. However, the possibility of an Indian launch cannot be ruled out. The automaker recently said it wants to enter the mass-market electric car industry in India soon. We are looking at everything we want to bring volume electric cars to India. How and when we will do that, we don’t know yet. We are looking for options that will be best for India. But we certainly want to participate in the growth of the electric (vehicle) market in India,” said Martin Jahn, a member of Skoda’s management board, as quoted by media.
On the other hand, Skoda is currently testing the Enyaq EV for its launch in India, which is scheduled for later this year. The Enyaq EV is available worldwide in various configurations. Skoda is all set to offer the Enyaq 80 in India. It has an electric motor installed on the back axle with a maximum power output of 282 bhp and 310 Nm.
