Supreme Court Refuses Urgent Hearing Of Plea Filed By Arvind Kejriwal Seeking 7-Day Extension Of Interim Bail

New Delhi: The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal is currently out on interim bail in the Delhi Excise Policy Case, till June 1, 2024. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Supremo had been arrested in the last week of March by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and recently, a Supreme Court Bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta had granted him interim bail; he is expected to surrender to the authorities on June 2, 2024. Just recently, the Delhi CM filed a plea in the apex court, seeking a seven-day extension of the interim plea, citing medical reasons – he is supposed to undergo a few tests and the medical investigation would require seven days. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi had mentioned for an urgent hearing and that request has been turned down by the top court.

SC Refuses Urgent Hearing Of Kejriwal’s Interim Bail Extension Plea

As mentioned earlier, Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi had mentioned a plea of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking an extension of his interim bail by 7 days on health grounds, for urgent hearing before the Supreme Court. The bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and KV Viswanathan turned down the urgent hearing request and said, “The matter is already heard and the judgment is reserved. Subsequently, the apex court directed the listing of the mentioning matter before the Chief Justice Of India for an appropriate order.”

‘There Could Be Some Serious Disease Going On Inside’

Addressing a press conference in Bathinda, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “My weight has fallen a lot. If a person’s weight falls by 7 kg in a month without any reason, then it is a very serious problem. So the doctors have prescribed several tests. I have asked for 7 days so that I can get all my tests done within a week. There could be some serious disease going on inside. The doctors said that if all the tests are done, then at least we will know whether some serious disease is going on inside or not.”

According to the party, the Delhi Chief Minister has lost 7 kilograms weight after his arrest and his ketone level is high which could signal some serious disease.The party further informed that the doctors had advised the AAP convenor to undergo a Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scan and some other medical tests due to which Kejriwal has sought the extension of his interim bail.
