T20 World Cup 2024: India Train In New York For First Time, Ravindra Jadeja Says, ‘Gonna Be Super Fun’
New York: The Indian team had their first ground session in New York ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday. Hardik Pandya who was vacationing in London also joined the squad and participated in the ground session where all the players focused on strength and conditioning training. It was Pandya’s first stint with the Men in Blue after the ODI World Cup 2023 where he had to leave midway due to an injury.
In a video posted by BCCI, India’s strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai spoke about the purpose the ground session. “Today we are having our first ground session, all the players have been away from us for two and a half months from us, just getting them together to know where they stand, what needs to be done before the World Cup, was the goal,” he said.
“As a sports science and medical team, we want to see them move, we want to see them run, so that we can put enough plans in place for each guy to be ready for the first game,” he added. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also expressed his excitement to play cricket in New York for the first time.

“First time we gonna play in New York its gonna be super fun,” he said. Pandya echoed the same too. “Excited to be here in New York. Has a good vibe, bright sun out,” said the Mumbai Indians captain.
Pacer Jasprit Bumrah also spoke about the excitement of playing cricket for the first time at this part of the world. “We have not yet played cricket, we have come for some team activity. Hopefully, it will be good. Weather is really good,” he said.
World No.1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav too sounded happy about the craze of cricket in New York. “The cricket is growing here in new York. So we are really excited and first day here was amazing, so very excited for few days coming up,” added explosive right-hander.
India are placed in Group A along with Pakistan, USA, Ireland and Canada. The Men in Blue will start their campaign on June 5 against Ireland. Before that, Rohit Sharma’s men will face Bangladesh in a warm-up game at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 1.
Virat Kohli is likely to miss the warm-up game as he is yet to join the squad. As per reports, the former India captain will be departing for New York by Thursday.
