Tamil Actor Sathyaraj Reveals Why He Rejected Working with Rajinikanth: ‘I Turned Down Sivaji, Enthiran Because…’
Chennai: For some time now, there’s been murmurs of a possible clash between actors Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj, dating back to the ’90s. Despite their powerful performances in the 1986 flick, Mr. Bharath, surprisingly the pair never got the chance to work together again on-screen, stirring the pot of rumors even more. But recently, in conversation with Indiaglitz, Sathyaraj has finally broken his silence, shedding some much-needed light on why exactly they remained absent from each other’s filmography over the years. Scroll down to find more details.
Sathyaraj Reacts To Sharing Screen with Rajinikanth
In his chat with the media agency, Tamil veteran actor Sathyaraj shared a fascinating fact: he got offers to share the screen with the superstar Rajinikanth in movies like ‘Sivaji’ (2007) and ‘Enthiran’ (2010). Yet, he decided to pass them up as he wasn’t content with the roles he was approached to play. He added, “After I became a hero (he began his career with villain roles), I was approached for two Rajinikanth films. The first one was Sivaji; the other was Enthiran. I was approached to play Danny Denzongpa’s role (an evil scientist who corrupts Chitti Robo). I wasn’t satisfied with both roles. Otherwise, what problems do we have? (sic).”
What exactly Happened Between Rajini and Sathyaraj?
In the era of the 1990s, Sathyaraj was noted for making certain political statements, which avid Rajinikanth’s fans believed were subtly aimed at their favored superstar. His comments during the early 2000s about the contentious Hogenakkal Falls water issue were also perceived as veiled digs at Rajinikanth by quite a few people. However, since 2013, a visible tone down in Sathyaraj’s assertiveness on Tamil Nationalism has been observed.
Over the years, Sathyaraj has made it a point never to speak ill of Rajinikanth. In fact, he has been known to compliment Rajinikanth’s superstar allure, even spotting it during his slumber back in the mid-2000s.
Sathyaraj To Reunite with Rajinikanth?
After a long gap of 38 years, stars Sathyaraj and Rajinikanth are joining forces in director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s upcoming project, “Coolie”. Although we await an official statement from the director himself, Sathyaraj let the proverbial cat out of the bag during “Malai Pidikatha Manithan” promotions. However, he chose to keep specifics about both his role and the movie under wraps for now.
About Rajinikanth’s Coolie
Rajinikanth, a titan of Indian cinema, is back in the mix with his 171st venture, “Coolie”, a gripping tale suggested to revolve around gold smuggling, according to its teaser. Music maestro, Anirudh Ravidhander, will be whipping up melodies for this film. Speaking of speculations, there’s a buzz about Sathyaraj being roped in for AR Murugadoss’ “Sikander” where Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna are already ruling the roost. In other recent updates, Sathyaraj is eyed to take on the spotlight in Vasanth Ravi’s “Weapon”, lined up for the audience on June 7.
