Tamil Nadu government to sign MoU with Centre to establish PM SHRI Schools in the state
In a significant decision, the Tamil Nadu Government has decided to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education to implement the PM SHRI Scheme, the Ministry tweeted on Friday.
“In this regard, a state level committee headed by the School Education Secretary has been constituted. Based on the recommendations of the committee, the MoU for establishing PM (SHRI) Schools will be signed by the state before the beginning of the next academic year 2024-25,” read the notification from Tamil Nadu’s School Education Department.
This partnership between the Tamil Nadu Government and the Ministry of Education signifies stronger center-state relations, it added. “We wholeheartedly welcome this initiative as it exemplifies the shared commitment towards ensuring holistic development for the students of Tamil Nadu,” wrote the ministry.
The PM SHRI School initiative is a centrally sponsored scheme by the Centre. It aims to establish over 14,500 PM SHRI Schools managed by various entities such as the Central Government, State/UT Governments, local bodies, including KVS and NVS. The initiative is intended to provide a diverse range of learning experiences and ensure the availability of good physical infrastructure and appropriate resources conducive to learning for all students.
